Champions Of Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these could be v sign, dove, olive branch and a broken rifle

These symbols represent peace because An olive branch is a sign of peace as a result of its slow growth and it was never grown much in war. The broken rifle symbolises peace because protests war. The dove shows peace because, in the bible it has been used many times to represent Peace with god innocence and purity.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because it show a peace sign sun shining peace which is meant to mean spread peace the sunlight and I put a famous quote from Mother Teresa.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela I thought this person was a champion of peace because he tore down the oppressive government and installed democracy. Nelson Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for peacefully destroying the Apartheid regime and laying the foundation for democracy.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because I learnt about how you can bring peace to your everyday life and other people

I learnt Better ways to spread peace around and how many different types of method there are to use peace to make your life better

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by spreading peace to everyone and helping people when they are feeling down and when they need it

Connections between texts

This week for reading we got to pick two texts to read and we had to make connections between the texts. The two texts I read were My name is Rez and New beginnings They both had a similar theme. After we read the texts we had to make something that showed the connections. After I read my two texts I choose to make a Venn diagram.

Here’s what I made:

What do you like to read about?

Mythical Maths

This week for maths we started geometry. We had to create a symmetrical pattern with six different shapes and colours.

You might ask What is symmetry? Symmetry is like a mirror Also there are lines in symmetry For Example; If you have 1 line of symmetry then you will have to symmetry zones. each zone has to be symmetrical.

This is what I created:

Do you like geometry? if so whats your part of geometry?

Super Science

In Science we have been learning about electricity. We did a four different experiments, I also relearned different types of energy like Nuclear energy, Electric energy, Thermal energy, Mechanical energy, solar energy and many more.

One of the experiments we did was: Battery Power

Materials needed : you need ‘T’ beaker ‘S’ beaker, specimen jar, zinc nail, copper nails, water salt which breaks up into sodium (Na) and chloride (CI) ions, a spoon and a buzzer.

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that the experiment would work with two copper nails and not with two different nails.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because You needed one of each type of nails and not two of same materials.

Conclusion:Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the torch experiment because you didn’t get instructions so you had to figure it out yourself. If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that I shouldn’t hold the wire to the battery with my bear hand because I burnt myself.

Have you ever done a science experiment? if so what was your favourite one?

Superb Science

This week we were doing science we did an experiment called battery power you need ‘T’ beaker ‘S’ beaker, specimen jar, zinc nail, copper nails, water salt which breaks up into sodium (Na) and chloride (CI) ions, a spoon and we used a buzzer. We had to fill the specimen jar up 3/4 of the way then put a copper nail and a zinc nail on the inside of the specimen jar and clip the buzzer to the nail and the side of the specimen jar then you got a teaspoon of salt and mixed it into the water if you did it right you should hear a buzzing noise. Me and my group had to change the nails around to have one copper and one zinc to make it work because at the start we had two zinc. Our hypothesis was incorrect because we thought it would work with two zinc nails. Have you ever done a science experiment if so what was your favourite?

PBL

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called the resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that doing the resilience project everyday is really good for your mental health and can make you happier. Mindfulness can be used in many forms and ways.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is an invite I made:

For the showcase evening I worked with Nikau and Romeo.

We decided to create a mindfulness exercise mixed with basketball because when you go to shoot hoops people can include mindfulness whilst playing. Mindfulness is said to be amazing for your mental health.

Here is my final creation:

I now know more about what mindfulness is and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I collaborated well with my group. I could have been better at communicating with my group.

If I was to do this again, next time I would communicate better and listen to everyones ideas.

Have you ever done The Resilience Project?

Glorious Goals

My goals for 2023 are to accomplish getting the school sports award and MVP for football. To achieve my sport award goal I will enter lots of sports events and do my best in everything. And to get MVP for football I will call out to my teammates, pass to them and teach them formations and techniques. The reason I have chosen these goals is because I am very sporty and love to play football and I think its the best fitting award for my personality.

What are your goals for this year?

Magnificent Math pattern

This week in maths We have been learning about patterns. Whilst we were in independent time we got to create our own patterns for other people to solve. Rules are things that make the pattern easier to solve for example P15+3 the p means position, a position is the first number of the equation for example 10×15+3=1503. I have my own maths pattern click the link to see my pattern. Can you figure out my pattern if you do figure it out leave the answer in the comments

magnificent Geometry

Kia ora This week I have been learning about Geometry and shapes. Today I made a raccoon out of shapes I will put up a picture to show you the drawing I drew in my maths book.

Shapes: Circle, Diamond, Right triangle, left triangle, Triangle

Have you ever made a picture with shapes?

Exciting Electricity

Hi, In this post we are learning about exciting electricity. What is Electricity? Electricity is what powers most of your devices in our home’s like Phones, Lights, Ovens, TVs, Tablets etc. We all use electricity in our every day lives, today I made a DLO to show you the future if electricity. Future of electricity

Battery – Something that can power things

Wire – Electricity can go trough this

Power – electricity in another word

What did you learn in this blog post?
